Band Cymru award for Beaumaris

In a busy weekend for Seindorf Beaumaris, the senior ensemble of Brass Beaumaris wowed the television audience during the final of S4C's Band Cymru competition.

Despite not picking up the main prize, Brass Beaumaris were awarded the Most Entertaining Item award for their rendition of Hora Staccato during the semi final.

The Cory Band were the overall winners but the three international adjudicators of Wyn Davies (New Zealand), Michael Mossman (USA) and Gordon Campbell (England) told the audience at Swansea University's Grand Hall that "… any one of three bands could have won".

S4C's studio pundit, Branwen Gwyn, revealed that she had Brass Beaumaris down as her overall winners remarking that the performance "had connected emotionally as well as being great entertainment".

Brass Beaumaris, made up of current and former members of the Seindorf Beaumaris family of bands, wowed the audience with Activate by Matthew Hall, Moses, Get Down by Barrie Gott before producing one of the highlights of the entire series with the low brass feature, Down in the River to Pray, featuring four tubas and three euphoniums.

Beaumaris Musical Director, Gwyn Evans, was incredibly proud of his Band's performance saying that it was "a joy to conduct such a bunch of talented musicians." "The music came from the heart and it really was so much fun, and that is what making music is all about," added Gwyn.
